4. And finally...
Hello,
Did you enjoy the warm weather over the holiday weekend? Last week I was
up in the frozen north of Sweden, which was actually quite good, but a
little strange for this time of year. And there have been plenty of new
materials on the site, including...
1. Game of the Month: "Uno" style card games
Just like the famous "Uno" card game, these games are based on
the traditional Crazy Eights. They also focus on several different languages
points. For example the first three sets have colours & numbers or
family & vegetables or prepositions.
Have a look at:

They work great for older kids or for smaller groups. Enjoy!
2. Alphabet Worksheets
If you're just starting the alphabet, here are some lower case and upper
case alphabet worksheets. There are also alphabet posters in "comic
style" and "school style" fonts. They work great in phonics
courses:

3. Sweden vs. Japan's New Textbook
Last week I had several presentations in Sweden. The Swedish kids were
just about fluent by the time they reached the end of elementary school,
and I've written up an article on "Why Sweden is so good at English?".
Hopefully we can apply some of the ideas in other countries.

By contrast the Japanese government has also released the draft version
of their new elementary school textbook. All schools from 2011 will have
to teach it starting in 5th grade and it is pretty terrible. I've translated
the outlines and target language for you as well as giving some links to
Genki English material you can hopefully use to spice it up:

4. And Finally
Later this month I'll hopefully be travelling to India to help train teachers
in some of the poorer areas of Hyderabad. It should be good to see how
Genki English can help the teachers over there, and what ideas we can learn
from them. Keep checking on my blog to see how I get on. Then I'll be back
in Japan for the Summer Tour 2008. I hope to see you soon.
Oh, and there's a new series of classroom games coming soon on the Genki
English blog, be sure to keep an eye out for them on the front page of
the site.
Enjoy the card games,
Be genki,
Richard
