Numbers

Teaching the phrase "How old are you?" is a great way to introduce numbers to children. You can download the song "How old are you?" as an MP3 for free here. Or you purchase the song on Genki CD vol. II The CD also contains a special CD ROM section that allows children to practice the numbers in a fun way!

There are many games that can be used to teach numbers. These include

	Karuta - simply write numbers on the cards
	The ostrich game
	Sticky fingers
	or the String Game

This song is effective when the kids are in groups and sing their own age during the relevant part of the song! However, usually within a class all of the students will be of similar ages! A good way to get around this is to use the "Genki Aliens". They are featured on the software section of the CD. Simply print out a picture of each of the aliens and give one to each group. The kids then sing the age of the alien that they have been given!
