Today’s New Game Monday once again comes from the fantastic ACET Teachers.
You can use it as a simple What’s your name? practice or as an ice breaker game for adults.
1. Everyone makes a name tag with their name written on it.
2. They find a partner and ask each other “What’s your name?” and respond.
3. Next they say “Nice to meet you,” exchange cards and then …….. magically become the other person!
4. And they then find another partner and this time they must respond not with their own name, but with the name written on the name card they got from the last person!
5. Keep going round the room until you end up getting your own name card back. Then you sit down and have won!
6. Game finishes when everyone is sat down and became themselves again. 🙂

As soon as I read the post I wanted to try the game. I did the card version with teachers during my workshop. But then with kids I used toys. For kids it was more natural to exchange toys. So they could better understand the reason why they should say another name each time. But both times it was fun!

funnily I did the same, Julia. I got out Snoopy and Micky and 8 others and had a go. It can be tricky with kids using their real names.
But with the toys, they were able and happy to introduce themselves as well after 50 minutes. And this was a first class of 4 year olds.!!!
Thank you, Julia for a wonderful idea to use the toys. I’m teaching 30 students in each class. So I used the toy version to introduce the game just with several kids and after we used the name cards for the whole class activity.

Thank you for a great game! I tried it with my 3rd and 4th graders. Lots of conversation practice and a lot of fun, especially when kids got my name card, or girls got boys names and the other way round 🙂
