I’ve invested in a small speaker that connects to my Ipod by bluetooth. Also included is a wire that plugs into your earphone jack. It’s called BASSBOOMZ. One speaker’ll cost you $40.00 and you can get a stereo set for around $60.00 US. everything included. Again, it plugs into your headphone jack, so no complicated syncronising with your computer. I’ve found it plenty loud and clear for my classes(around 10 students per class. perhaps with 40 students. . .not so much.)

thanks a lot. I agree with you.we have bought a good speaker for each of our classrooms at the first days of the term.I use it to teach different parts of the lesson and it helps them learn better.We listen to your songs in our classes,too.
Yes!! I took your advice Richard and am now using the software with the music and let me tell you, the difference with this is also amazing! Since I have my computer with speakers hooked up now instead of a normal CD player, the volume is much better. I have totally noticed it with the kids, they sing more and louder. I can´t imagine what it would be like if I buy a really good speaker like you say! But I must let everyone know, if you don´t have a TV or projector in your room for using the GEnki software…buy one now!! Besides some good speakers this does wonders in your class too.

Thanks for this tip Richard! I have the luxury of using denshi kokuban at all my elementary schools, but I had been using a sub-par (also translated as cheap…haha) speaker system during the summer class I teach.
I didn’t really have any idea what good speaker to get until you mentioned the Fostex.
I hopped on Yahoo Auctions and got a barely used one for 5,000 yen (shipping included)! My tip to everyone is check auction sites first (especially if you’re on a limited budget). You might run into a deal like I did.
Speaker arrived today, and I can’t wait to use it in my summer class. It sounds AMAZING.

I’ve really started centering my lessons around GENKI and class is so fun and I’m feeling much more confident, but just as the centerpiece of the class becomes GENKI, my little USB laptop speakers don’t seem to be packing the punch they once did!
I’m hoping I can convince the school to buy a set of really nice speakers and not just those little laptop ones! If not, I’ll just spend my own money (but I will also take them with me when I move on!)
I’m not sure what happened to my speakers. They were doing a decent job (though they HAD to be maxed out), but I rearranged my classroom and now when we sing any song, the music is drowned out and the kids get lost.

I’m probably splitting hairs at this point, but I really want to be sure I’m getting great speakers for the classroom. Do these Fostex speakers pack enough punch for the room? How many kids? As I said, I’m probably splitting hairs now between the Fostex you are recommending (which adds weight to their side) and M-AUDIO Studiophile AV 40 that I’ve been reading about. The safe bet for me would be to get what you are using, since you are using it for the same things I want to use it for (the classroom). I want to HIT the buy button. Help Me!
I’ve used the Fostex’s with 40 people in a closed room and they worked great – anything above that might be pushing it though!
Quick Tip is to make sure the speakers are as high as possible so the sound doesn’t get absorbed by the front row of kids!
P.S. They will blow the socks off any laptop speakers! 🙂
As you know, I bought a set of M-Audio speakers. They are pretty good, though I’m having a hard time setting them up in good positions for maximum quality just due to limited space and resources…oh, well. They get the job done alright and a lot better than little USB speakers (and they really boom and make people curious as to what is going on in my classroom.)

since I used to be a sound engineer I have already installed 2 cheap but loud speaker systems. Just a little tip for those who do not know a lot about sound. I would recommend a 2.1 speaker system like the one I use. You hang the 2 speakers on both sides of the board (one at each side) just a little above your hight and the sub woofer on the floor. Try to buy an adjustable sub. The more watts you buy the louder the sound and of course the more expensive. Mind the true power which is in RMS. Do not choose any system below 30 watt rms. Fostex are also very nice and loud but I prefer 2.1 speaker system.
