In all my travels I’ve met lots of really stupid adults. But I’ve never met a stupid kid.
And it’s true. Some kids come up with totally off the wall, completely out there ideas and ways of doing things. But they’re never stupid, in fact that’s where the genius lies.

It’s true. I love so much with my students. BUT BUT BUT let me tell you: there is no class where we laugh as much as my adult class. It is the time of week my stomach hurts from laughing.
It is so much thinking about and wondering what to do today~
but it is always worth it.
I think the moment they enter my classroom they loose all their “adultship” and turn into kids. The salaryman suddenly takes the finger puppets, they feel free to just be someone they usually have to hide.
He actually said the other day:
“I think this door is a magic door.”
I had given up on adults, but it was Richard who reminded me it might be worth to give it a try anyway, after so many years without. And now I am very grateful for this kick.
So-YES! Kids are great! And my focus is here, but just for a spice of pepper and salt, an adult class is wonderful ,too.
My Chinese girlfriend is starting to teach the moms of one of my classes. She’s completely underselling herself by doing it for free.
Kids and adults offer different experiences and opportunities. With adults you can quickly get into more interesting (for an adult) topics and discussions. I sometimes feel bored and stifled with kid English. I mean I prefer teaching kids as it is what I’ve done most and I kind of know what to do, but it gets dull sometimes…and even when you get those kids to a point where they can actually converse pretty decently, the topics are kid-based.
Of course, all is not lost. I like “kid” things. Computer games, Star Wars, etc. On Saturdays I teach from 9:30 – 4:30, but after that I take out my computer to work on materials and lesson plans for the next day or week or whatever. Sometimes, I’ll open up a game and connect the laptop to the big screen TV and play and the kids will come in during their break time and watch and even play….and it leads to some natural learning of vocabulary and grammar. The kids really got into Star Wars Dark Forces (from 1994?). It was interesting trying to teach the kids how to play and solve the rather difficult puzzles.
