Genki English Workshop over Skype?

UPDATE: Click here to see how the workshop went!

=============================

Tomorrow I’m doing something a little different.

It’s my first Genki English workshop over Skype.

To Russia!

A million thanks to Julia for setting this up.

It is a little scary to see if everything works OK, but if it does it could mean I’ll be able to help a lot more of you without the huge travel bills. I’m sure you’ll agree that is a good thing!

Fingers crossed!

be genki,

Richard

P.S. One other option if this does work is to do a Virtual Workshop where a bunch of us get together on Skype to share ideas etc. Would that be something you’d be interested in? If so please do let me know if the comments! OK, off to prepare now!

Richard Graham

Hello, I'm Richard Graham. When I was a kid I found school to be sooooo boring... So I transformed my way of teaching. I listened to what the kids were really wanting to say and taught it in ways they really wanted to learn. The results were magical. Now I help teachers just like you teach amazing lessons and double your incomes!

I’d like to join Skype session Richard.
I live and teach in Korea, it would be nice to join the Skype conference with you.

By the way, are you going ever to come to Korea with the WS?

    Hi Richard

I’d be really interested in getting involved in a skype brainstorm/workshop.

    Keep us posted

Hey Richard – best of luck on the Skype workshop. Indeed, I would be interested in a Skype forum in which to share ideas with other teachers, particularly relating the increasing motivation to speak with older students

  4. Margit

HU!!! Great. Of course; conference, workshop, seminar, what ever!
    Good luck today!!!

  5. Felipe

  6. Jaynie

Hope you have a great Skype conference!
I would certainly be interested in the idea.
Sorry to get back to you so late but you asked a while back about ideas for new songs. The other teacher I am working with was saying about daily routine verbs in some type of Genki song…….and also the more common past tense verbs.Go-went, see-saw etc.
Keep us all up to date on the Skype idea!

Just finished! And everything actually went really well! There was a little delay but we got used to it soon and the teachers got to ask questions and we did quite a few songs and games.

Only downside for me was I couldn’t see teacher’s individual faces in the room but in general it worked very well, plus of course zero travel expenses.

I’d definitely be up for trying it again somewhere around the world if any of you are interested – but just keep in mind that Julia put a lot of work into making it all happen! πŸ™‚

Sorry, I meant how we can organize workshop through skype? What do we need? How much it would be? etc…

    1. First thing you need is a group of great teachers ( the hardest part!)
    2. Then a good internet connection and a TV linked to a computer with a webcam.
    3. You’d also need to be comfortable running the workshop if the connection drops!

I think Julia might have had a few sleepless nights about no.3 but we can discuss it as much as you like over email first and also have a practice skype chat to see if the tech works!

Then just email me to see what we can work out.

Price wise, I’m still figuring all this out, so if you’re happy to experiment with me then I’d be happy to do a few free ones in different places till we get the hang of it!

    Hi Richard!

Today I had an exciting day! And I think it was one of the most important days in my life which I’ll never forget!!

Thank you very much for your work done for us, for your time, for your energy you shared with us, for your positive thinking, for your smiles,
and of course for the lessons you taught us.
And the “I can …!” lesson was the most important!!!

I remember how it all got started. It was just a little hope: what if I write an e-mail? Maybe I’ll get an answer… πŸ™‚

And now I know if I really want to do something
I CAN DO IT sooner or later!

Of course there were something which is to improve. And I’ll do my best to become really genki and looking for the next meeting with you.

    My best wishes,
    Julia

    Thanking you Diana

  15. Sarah

    Hi, Richard,

Thanks your workshop. It is very amazing. Sometimes I think why more students like this kind of having lessons. The reason is it can let students feel exciting. I am using it to teach my students. If the workshop can do it through the Skype, it is better to hear that. and I will enjoy it.
    Sarah

Hey Richard – I trust the Skype wkshp w Russia went fabulous! I would definitely be interested in an online collaboration session, although I’m wondering about about the effectiveness of Skype….have you considered Adobe Connect? I’m pretty sure that they have a free trial, and it has WAY more tools to make the session productive…. (there are numerous other online platforms as well, most of which are free of have free trials…) Keep me posted!

I would love to join your workshop over Skype, I teach in Oklahoma and love the way my kids get so excited with your lessons. We have so much fun. Please let me know the date.

    Thanks,

    Olivia

Skype workshops could be the thing to spread Genki in poor countries if the price is substantially lower, as long as the Internet works. πŸ™‚

  22. Richard

    Hi Nika,

Usually we find the opposite, there is so much funding out there for poorer countries, and very little content to actually spend it on, that full live workshops are much easier to do.

The Skype is usually for richer countries where teachers don’t have as much time to train themselves or countries where I can’t get a visa! πŸ™‚
