March in Japan

March the 3rd is the Girl's Festival in Japan. Ornate displays of Japanese dolls are brought out on display

The 14th sees White Day. Valentine's Day involves girls giving presents, of usually chocolates, to male friends and aquantences. This gesture is returned on White Day, where boys give presents to these girls.

The end of March sees the end of the school year. Final year primary, junior high and senior high students have their graduation ceremony and receive their certificates. The events can get very emotional, and many students often end up crying. They also sing "Auld lang syne". Teachers and public workers may also have to change their place of work, often at very short notice.
