As some of you may have heard there is a new head of the Education Ministry
in Japan (MEXT). One of the things that he is going to be looking at is
whether to make Elementary School English an official, compulsory subject
for all schools.
Now this would be a good thing, BUT there is a very real possibility that if this does happen we'll end up with a horrible JHS like boring grammar based textbook. Obviously this would kill all the hard work you and we have been doing so WE DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN!!
We need your help to make sure the kids continue to love English and learn in a fun and effective way.
Thanks to you Genki English is the most widely used resource in Japanese
Elementary Schools and you, the teachers and ALTs who teach there, are
doing amazing work! But the problem is that your Boards of Education are
not giving you credit and in the official reports they submit they either
deny you teach there or put something like "Kids just play with ALT".
So if you use any of the Genki English ideas or materials in Elementary
Schools we want to hear about it and show the Education Ministry exactly
what you are doing!
What we'd like to know is exactly where and how you use ideas presented
here, or what other materials you use. Filling out the form below would
help us enormously!
And if you do like this website or have found any of it useful then please
tell everyone about it, friends, parents, teachers or tell your kids to
play on the Kawaii Eigo section as homework. Let's get the word out there that English doesn't
have to be boring or difficult, it can be fun and even more effective!
Please help us out and make sure that the next generation of Japanese kids
grows up thinking "Yeah, English is easy! Yeah, English is fun! I
wanna do more!"
Be genki,
Richard
