"Sports Song"
by Richard Graham &
Will Jasprizza

What sports do you play?
What sports do you play?
What sports do you play?
What sports do you play?

I play tennis,
I play soccer,
I play basketball,
I play volleyball.

( Repeat Chorus)

I play table tennis,
I play badminton,
I play rugby,
I play baseball.

( Repeat Chorus)

In the classroom or at home...

Kids love to play sports, and they love to learn the names of some of their favourites! Plus it's a great internationalisation lesson as you can talk about what sports are popular in different countries!

Remember the gestures!

I play tennis,

I play soccer,

I play basketball,

I play volleyball.

What sports do you play?
What sports do you play?
What sports do you play?
What sports do you play?

I play table tennis,

I play badminton,

I play rugby,

I play baseball.

Recommended Games: Stopwatch Game, Sticky Fingers

A great way to teach the sports names is to play the stopwatch game. When you introduce one sport, the kids pass that sport's ball around the class saying, for example, "What sports do you play?", "I play tennis" whilst passing a tennis ball! See which ball gets passed round the fastest!!!
Then the kids have a go using the top section of the software to make sure they have learnt all the names. Then they have a go at the quiz! One of the best ways is to get the kids on different computers, the teacher says "Go!" and they race to see who can complete the quiz first!

Worksheet:

Cut out the sports pictures. Fold in two and place in a small box. Play some music. Whilst the music is playing the kids pass the box around the class. Stop the music. Ask the kid who is holding the box "What sports do you play?", they open the box, choose a piece of paper and if they can say "I play " plus the name of the sport they get a point for their team!

On the CD....
On the music section of the CD there is the full song plus  an instrumental karaoke version so the kids can sing along on their own and of course there is a special CD-ROM section!

Simply put the CD into a suitable computer (most Windows machines and newer Macs should be OK!),and on the left of the screen you have the lyrics, but this time if you move the mouse over the words they speak!!

On the top right hand corner is a special section where kids can practise the vocab used in the songs. And when the kids have understood all the words,  they can try their hand at the "Sports" quiz!
