To Whom It May Concern:
This curriculum is based on what I have taught
and learned the past 3 years at the elementary
schools in Shikoku's Asakura-mura. It was
inspired out of the desire to communicate
with my students and from it my students
and I have learned a lot about each other,
have become great friends, and can communicate
on a basic level in English.
The curriculum focuses on the speaking and
listening aspects of English and allows the
ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) the flexibility
to teach International Understanding in his
or her own way. Its goal is to promote independent
thinking and free expression in English and
to create a broader understanding of the
world. It is based on 13 or 14 lessons for
each level (divided into 3 trimesters) to
be taught throughout the school year. It
is hoped that any additional lessons each
trimester will give the ALT more time to
focus on the world, cultural aspects of different
countries, and various cultural activities
as he or she desires.
It should be noted that this curriculum does
not include actual lesson plans. It only
provides a skeleton of the lessons I have
taught. Each of my lessons begins with a
'Conversation Phrase' activity, sometimes
includes a song, and always includes one
or two games. Most of the games and activities
I use in my lessons can be found on the Genki
English website (www.genkienglish.com).
