December 2003
Merry Christmas from the UK. I'm back in Europe for the next couple of
months to produce some amazing new Genki English stuff! It's a short newsletter
this month, but have a look at the discussion board of the site for lots
of hot topics! http://genkienglish.net/discussion.mv
NEW! Genki English DVD!! 1000 copies Free for Elementary Schools!
For the last 3 years we been visiting Elementary Schools and giving training to thousands of teachers from Hokkaido to Kyushu. In June this year alone we taught Genki English to 1000 teachers and over 7000 kids.
However the Shows and Seminars have proved so popular, and as we do them
on a volunteer basis, theyfve become a victim of their own success with
far too many requests to handle. So we have videoed three of the most popular
lessons, spiced them up with lots of music and effects and put them on
a funky new DVD! Parents and teachers can now order the DVD from www.GenkiEnglish.com
but as our main aim is to support Elementary School English then we are
giving away 1,000 copies of the DVD free to public elementary schools!!
Our mission is to make sure that Elementary School English doesnft turn out like the boring, grammar based system used in Junior High schools, where hardly anyone learns how to speak. With our travels around Japan they have seen the amazing results teachers have been getting using Genki English, where the kids really enjoy English and want to learn more. Hence with the DVD, Genki English want to show Japanese teachers that even if they canft speak English themselves, with the right attitude of gI can do it!h their students too can learn English, have fun and be genki!
One other idea I do have is that you split the kids into groups (use "mingle" http://genkienglish.net/mingle.htm ) and play a Christmas song. When they hear a Christmas word they know (like "snow", "reindeer", "Christmas" etc.) they stand up and shout the word out. The fastest group gets a point.
Good songs
are "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Jingle Bells" and of course "White
Christmas".
The Genki English card game has been a huge hit "my students loved
the card game...I recommend you give it a try" said Kerryberry on
the Ideas Board! Check it out at http://www.genkienglish.net/cardgame.htm
And don't forget the free Genki Christmas song on the site, now with a groovy animation! http://www.genkienglish.net/cardgame.htm
Have a fantastic holiday season, wherever you are. If you celebrate Christmas
then I hope it's the genkiest one yet, and if not then have an amazing
2004!!
