Genki English Newsletter

November 2002

Hello! Hope you're all having a good time with your teaching!
As promised last month there are now 7 new sets of picture cards and the new worksheet book on the website. Have a look at the "new section" on the main page. http://www.genkienglish.com

Free online Teaching Videos

People are always asking us what the gestures and actions are for each of the Genki English songs. It's a bit tricky to explain in words so we've spent the last couple of weeks making explanation videos for all of the songs on the 4 CDs. The actions make the English a heck of a lot easier to teach, and of course it makes them more fun. We've put the videos on the website and they're free to view and include nearly an hour's worth of hints and tips! Videos for the songs on CDs 1, 3 &4 are online now. Have a look, you're bound to get lots of ideas!

Whilst doing these videos I had to go through last year's Teacher Training video, and I was so surprised at how much info we packed into it. At the moment it's only in Japanese, but if you want to explain to your teachers how English should be taught, then buy them a copy of the video! It's chock-a-block full of ideas, cartoons and explanations on how to teach in a genki way!

Christmas Lesson Ideas and MP3 song

If you celebrate Christmas it's time to start Christmas lesson planning! On the site I not only have my selection of Christmas Ideas ( http://genkienglish.net/Christmas.htm ) with some really cool stuff, but there is also a new remixed version of the Genki Christmas Song available free on-line ( http://genkienglish.net/christmassong.htm ). Combine them with the "Reindeer Race Game" ( http://genkienglish.net/reindeer.htm ) for a great series of Christmas lessons!

CD 4 is out

CD4 is out, and kids' reactions have been amazing! The songs are proving really popular! If you haven't ordered your copy yet, you can now do so via credit card anywhere in the World, or via "cash on delivery" in Japan. There's also a new form that you can print and give to your Board of Education or school ( http://genkienglish.net/orderform.swf ), so hopefully they'll pay for it!
If we get your order before NOV 30th you'll get Post and Packing FREE, and if you order the whole set of 4 CDs you'll get a full set of worksheets FREE!

Richard's Diary

Doing Genki English is a strange life, from one night being put up in luxury hotels to the next sleeping on a park bench, from giving presentations to hundreds of people in Tokyo to visiting the smallest schools in Northern Japan, from working into the dawn hours in the freezing Genki House to songwriting by the beach in Thailand and even filming in Hollywood!

There has been a lot going on in 2002 so I decided to put my diary on the website. So if you want to find out what's it's like behind the scenes or how & why I do what I do or even if you're just nosey or a bit bored, have a read!

http://genkienglish.net/richardsdiary.htm

This is a bit of an experiment so please get in touch (http://genkienglish.net/contact.htm ) and let me know what you think!

I'll update the diary as often as I can, and I'll also be filling all the gaps to the beginning of 2002, so keep coming back!

Are we coming to your town?

From Saturday we're on the road again, started with the CD4 Launch Party at Maruzen in Tokyo! Come along and see all the songs in action! Then we'll be in Saitama, the Okayama JET conference & Okayama Maruzen on the 23rd, the Matsuyama EPIC festival, Gunma JET conference, a huge tour of Nagasaki, and a load of shows in Ishikawa! Check out the schedule and if we're near by be sure to come along and see us!

Do you want to make money with Genki English?

As you know we do a lot of shows for free, but sometimes it can be difficult for schools to organise travel expenses etc. But do you know that we also do private shows, where kids and teachers pay to attend (for the equivalent price of a normal English lesson) and the organisers (that's you!) not only gets the prestige and press coverage of a Genki English visit, but also the chance to make some money as well? If you're interested, get in touch with Will and he'll be able to give you some more details!

And finally,

There's lots on the website this month, so check it out and have a look, especially the new Teaching Guide videos. ( http://genkienglish.net/cdvideos.htm )
Oh, and there's a really cool new poster on the site, have a look at http://genkienglish.net/begenki.swf !!

Be genki,

Richard
