After all the excitement of the new songs last month, it looks like this month has turned into a games festival!
I'll also be on the road from June, so if I'm near where you are, please pop along!

This month's game: Assault Course

This is a great game that was sent in by Genki English reader Nigel. The full version is on the site ( http://genkienglish.net/gamesreaders.htm ) but here's a "mini version". It works great with the new "Under, on, in" song ( http://genkienglish.net/underonin.htm ).

If you're in the gym:
1. Set up an obstacle course with things for the kids to go under, on, in etc.
2. Put the kids in pairs. One becomes a "dog" (!) one becomes the "handler".
3. They have to go round the course. But the twist is that the dog can only move if ordered to by the handler! So the handler has to say "Go under the bar", "jump on the box" etc. etc. If they don't speak the dog can't move!
4. Time to see who can get the quickest time!

Or if you are in the classroom, you could do the same thing with chairs, but blindfold the "dog" and re-arrange the "under, on, in" picture cards ( http://genkienglish.net/underonin.htm ) on the board. The handler looks at the board and commands the dog where to go! Lots of fun!

On the Readers' Games page this month there are also:
Cabbages
Badminton
Wake up Game
& Create a Country

There's also my new "How are you?" Card Game which is quite cool!

New Teachers' Questions Page

As it's no longer possible to have an open discussion board on the site ( mainly due to the spam and hacking attempts!), I've now set up a new "Teachers Questions Page" where I'll put up some of the more popular questions I get asked everyday. There have been some great questions this month, about teaching small groups, special needs, younger kids and phonics vs. sight words. Hopefully there'll be lots more useful questions coming up, and if you have one, please email it in, I still answer them all!

And Finally... Star Wars

Mind you with all the games this week I have a feeling that the most popular one will be the Star Wars game! ( http://genkienglish.net/starwars.htm ) I'm off to see the movie tomorrow - yeah! But it's a great end of year game, and we might even get chance to play it in Tokyo!

I'll also be in Kagawa and Akita later on in the year, so if that's near you, let me know I can probably add your schools in as well!

Be genki,

Richard
