Discipline: What would your Karate teacher do?

I get a lot of emails along the lines of “My students sleep in class. Β What can I do?” Β or things like “My students refuse to sit still or do what I say.”

My advice is always “Be strong, set the expectation of what is and what isn’t allowed in your class.”

For example if you went to a karate class and behaved like that, Β what would the karate teacher do?

We could talk all day about making your lessons awesome and getting their attention.

But at the end of the day it really is that simple.

Set the expectation. Β  Make sure the students know your rules.

And be strong.

You’ve got it.

Be genki,

Richard

Good Example. I’ve observed my son’s karate teacher. He’s really good, he just gives a firm instruction and the kids do it. It’s also really student centered, the older kids teach the younger kids. If the younger kids can’t do something, the older haven’t taught them properly yet. Lot’s of rules, but no confusion as everyone knows what they are.
