Here’s a valentine’s chocolates video I shot in Tokyo last week. Instead of guys being pressured into buying expensive gifts for girls, in Japan it’s girls who have to buy chocolates for the boys! And not just husbands or boyfriends, they have to buy them for every guy they know. I should have stayed a little longer!

Wow this store is so neat! How interesting that the girls have to buy chocolate for the boys… I’ll have to tell my students about that one. The boys will be jealous!

What a beautiful shop. How interesting that Japan has a totally different tradition. Do they send flowers too??

Nice video! Girls buying chocolates on Valentines Day in Japan is optional though, there are no regulations. I’m looking forward to a video of White Day: a clever idea of the Japanese confectionary industry. White Day is on March 14th, where men who have received Valentines Day choccies are expected to buy something in return. According to Wikipedia, the return gift should be two to three times the cost of the Valentine’s gift.

So maybe I should have given out more chocolates! ha ha ha…
