One really useful phrase you can use in adult or higher level classes or when you have plenty of time is “Talk me through it ….”

So, for example, if you’re teaching clothes in English with “He/She’s wearing….”, just bring up the big Oscar Lunch photo and just say “Talk me through it…”     The students pick a person and talk you through what they are wearing to get sentences like “The lady on the far left is wearing a ….. and ….. and a …  The man next to her is wearing …… ”    Cue lots of smiles as they think it’s just regular people but then spot someone they recognize!

Or with teaching colors or emotions in English,  try one of the color branding images out there and again say “Talk me through it ….”  to get things like “Red is a …… color.   Some brands that use red are …… & …. & …..”   (Students love how different brands are pronounced in different languages!)

Or with families,  bring up some famous fictional families and say “Talk me through it….”   to get things like “This is Mom.  Her name is Marge.  This is Dad.  His name is Homer.”etc.

For teaching the time, bring up an online TV Guide with listings of TV shows and their times.   “Talk me through it …..”

Or for food,  bring up the menu from a restaurant online and say “Talk me through it ….”   to get things like “There is a pizza for $12.” or “The Sunday Lunch contains …..” etc.  etc.
