Although we often complain about co-workers who maybe aren’t quite so passionate or who teach in outdated ways, there is something I really like about teachers.

It’s that, on the whole, teachers are good, decent people.

We’re not selling arms to Africa orย anythingย like that, instead we’re helping others.

However in some other professions I’m always blown away by those who think it’s quite OK to lie, cheat and steal.

I just can’t get my head around how they can think like that.

But teachers are, on the whole, different.

We do the job because we want to help our students and have fun doing it.

It’s all about building people up.

And I like people who are good, decent, constructive and honest.

So that’s one more reason why I like, and am very appreciative of, all of you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Be genki,

Richard

Thank you for your kind words. The post cheered me up. You’re the first person in a long while who said out loud that honesty is actually a good thing. All around me I hear it doesn’t pay off to be decent but I don’t want to be like them.

One of the main reasons I decided to become a teacher was that it is a “giving” job, as opposed to a “taking” job. But I think the greatest secret about teaching is I usually learn more from my students than they do from me!!!

    Ditto!!!!

Stephen, great you brought this up. I think the same, and it is even more how I learn tons more from my own kids than they from me.
(My oldest is having Highschool entrance exams in two weeks and I am feeling like I haven’T had such an encounter in years. )

My eyes were welled up by your writing. Thank you Richard, if I can just call your first name.
With changes around me, I was actually thinking of having a break from teaching, but I DO like helping children and I WILL keep doing this career.

Thanks again!! Have a great Sunday evening!!

I always wonder how Tobacco Companies can get people to work for them. Not at any price ๐Ÿ™‚
