βοΈ Yosh, big breath!!! Today I’m starting another mammoth recode to improve the Genki English Online software!
3 things certainly stand out when I’m doing this …
- There is so much in there! It’s crazy how many hours and hours and hours of games, songs, recordings are in there!
- How fun it all is. When I listen back to all the recordings we’ve done over the years this certainly isn’t your average English course!
- How long this has taken me! Some of the original code I wrote in a beach hut in Thailand in 2002. Over the years it has been improved and improved and helped millions of kids around the world, but it has certainly been a huge chunk of my life coding and writing and recoding & rewriting all this!
Hopefully we’ll have the first roll outs of the new version for your students next week – it should really improve the experience for them – and hopefully I’ll finish up this round a little later after that! Thanks for all your support over the years!
OK, where’s my caffeine … βοΈ β
Richard
P.S. The reason I need all the coffee is that even slight changes can often have unforeseen consequences elsewhere. So I have to be really, really conscious of what I do so I don’t accidentally break something that causes weird things to happen in totally different areas of the program – they’re almost always impossible to pin down if that happens!! Β So if you find any then do let me know!
P.P.S. Β And just like teaching, coding never finishes. Β No sooner have we finished one big set of upgrades than we get new feedback and new ways to make things better, which is cool and very zen when you come to think about it!
