Is there any chance for a burnt out teacher to “resurrect”?

Olga just wrote in to ask:

Is there any chance for a burnt out teacher to “resurrect”? What should be done to enable this resurrection? 🙂

Hi Olga,

Very good question!

Yes there is indeed 🙂

First step is to take a holiday. Either a full week away. Or just a Saturday afternoon pampering yourself at your local spa. You need it. You deserve it. Take it.

Step 2 is to write down all the reasons you wanted to become a teacher in the first place. Write down who you wanted to help, how you wanted to help them and most important of all why you wanted to help them. Make it into a big poster with a huge smiling photo of your ideal student. Stick it on your wall and look at it everyday.

Step 3: Assess your current job to see if it fulfills these reasons why you started. If it doesn’t, change it. Either talk to your boss, talk to your clients or simply look for a job that will fulfill your dreams. Or even better make a school that will fulfill your needs. You can’t teach everyone so make sure you are teaching the people who love what you do.

Richard

What if the teacher’s situation is caused by some unruly kids. Any idea on how to handle the situation better?
