Recruiting New Students: 3 Genki ways to use your time wisely and keep you sane!

3 Genki ways to use your time wisely and keep you sane when recruiting new students:

1. Make sure they want what you have.

We love teaching.  Our students love learning from us.  However, as crazy as it sounds, not everyone wants what you have. And that’s cool.

Pizza stands don’t go after people who want vegan ice cream. There’s no point recruiting students who want to speak English if you teach grammar translation. And similarly don’t waste time trying to recruit students who want only written exercises  if you teach students how to speak. There are 7 other billion possible students on the planet. You only need 120 so let’s get you 120 students who love being in your class!

2. Make sure they can afford you

Thanks to covid inspired government printing, there is more money in the world right now than ever before.    It’s just not equally distributed.

So although we’d all love to help everyone all the time, that’s just not possible.

We can do lots of amazing charity and other projects on the side, but for your main income, remember you’re not a bargain basement teacher.

You’re an awesome Genki teacher.  You are rare.  You worked hard to build your skills.

Plus your local supermarket doesn’t accept Facebook likes for payment when your kids are hungry.

Don’t feel bad though, there are plenty of cheaper, or even free, teachers out there who aren’t as good as you and are desperate for the students who can’t afford you yet.  Don’t be greedy, let them have those students!!

And you focus on the students that love what you do and can easily afford the amazing skills you have.   Where do they live?  Where do they hang out?  Where do they shop?   Which social media groups are they in (hint, they’re probably not watching TV :))?

Once you change that focus you will start seeing an abundance of new students everywhere.

Or, if you prefer, you could triple your class size and halve your fees. 😉

3. Make sure they want you now

#LifestyleFirst. Use your smart working time now to chat to the 120 students who want you now.    Spend the time you save with the ones you love.   And the ones who want you next year?  Chat with them next year 🙂
