Fun. Money. Results. Why you need all 3 as a teacher

It’s a strange quirk of the internet that whatever you write about you will always get someone complaining about it.

For example when I write about fun ideas for lessons I always get emails from teachers saying things like

“How dare you have fun in lessons, education should be serious at all times!”

Errrr…. okay ….

Similarly if I write about getting results for kids I always get comments along the lines of

“Results for students? Β We shouldn’t expect results from children at that age, it should be all play!”

Hmmm…..

And if, like yesterday, I write about money, I always get replies along the lines of

“Education should never be associated with something like money!”

Hmmm… okay but who is going to pay our bills?

The fact of the matter is that you need all 3

If you only have results and money then without fun you’re going to have a really boring life.

If you have fun and money, then it’s not really teaching, that’s entertainment. (Still a very valid occupation, but it’s not teaching.)

And if you have fun and results but no money then you are going to have a very hard life and won’t be able to get all the things you need! Β ( Or be able to afford to take time to recover from a hard term’s work!)

So the big question for today …..

Do you have enough fun in your life?

Do you have enough money in your life?

And do you have enough results in your life?

If the answer is not a resounding “YES!” to all three, then which area are you going to commit to improving first?
