Phonics “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down” Game + Video of Kids from India

As part of the training last week we sent the teachers into real classes to see how they got on with their very first phonics lessons!

I thought you might like to see what the classrooms and school was like so whilst doing their evaluations I wondered round videoing the classes for you!

Amongst other things, many of the teachers happen to be on the Phonics “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down” game:

(Click here if you are on email and can’t see the video)

1. The teacher says a word.

2. If the word contains today’s phoneme (sound) they do thumbs up.

3. If not it’s thumbs down!

This is a very simple activity, but as you can see the kids really like it, and you can find it as part of the long lesson plan in the second video on the main Phonics page.

Yes they were a bit noisy, but just compare it with what the regular Indian rote learning English lessons are like!

What did you think of the school & kids?  Would you like to teach there?

Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Be genki,

Richard

I just want to send a MASSIVE thankyou to Genki English for giving me inspiration and rebooting my energy and enthusiasm levels- My preschoolers here in Italy had their first taste of a Genki song yesterday and it was wonderful to see the whole classroom bursting with smiles, fun and laughter.I can’t wait to get going and teach some more :o)
