From Austria: Gingerbread House Christmas Play

Now I’m back in the land of unlimited internet I can show you a clip of where we had this weekend’s workshop. By the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, central Beijing & Bangkok, Arctic Sweden and now very Christmassy Austria…

All very inspirational, especially as Beethoven used to spend his Summers just round the corner!

So what did we come up with?

One was a great way to do theย Gingerbread House song: simply get the kids to go round in a circle building an imaginary Gingerbread House as they sing the chorus.

Or even better, what about making a cardboard Gingerbread House that the kids can put together as they sing, perfect for a Christmas Play! All inspired by Flossy’s “Huf Haus”

You could then even do theย What colour is Christmas song? afterwards as the kids decorate the sides of the house!

Oh I want to go there. How beautiful. BUT it looks soooo expensive.

    Roll over Beethoven!

This is the song I hope the 4th years will perform for their parents, along with suitable props of course.

Thank you for sharing the videos!!

Austria is soooo beautiful, full of Christmas feeling! I’d love to go there around this time of the year!

The video of Gingerbread House song is great! I especially love the gesture for the garden. (I’ll use it in my lesson!)

    What a great workshop!!

I used this song on Monday in one of my schools. They already knew ‘Let’s build a house’, so this was a breeze for them. They loved building one large house in the middle, hammering in sweets to hold it together. Pulling lollipops out of the garden was the favourite action! naturally! Last, but not least, when the song ended I then said ” What do you want to do?” they all shouted “I want to eat!!”

(One very small sweet boy said it was a witches house. I was a bit confused! Of course he was thinking about Hรคnsel and Gretel!! I find it so amazing how children think sometimes.)

The town is just so full of Christmas spirit… helps to see the lights and all the decorations in the cold! It’s just not REALLY Christmas without it!

I love the dance for the gingerbread house song. Thank you Richard and all the teachers who did such a great job!

Hey, I tried this “dance” with the snowman song yesterday.
It’s just soo much fun and the kids remember so quickly.

We will do this dance with our play in church. Just imagining doing a circle dance in church makes me smile. I think it’s perfect.

    Thank you!
