One “boom” we’ve seen with English classes during covid is when you switch from purely online kids classes to “Mommy and me” online classes. ย ย The mums are very often desperate for ways to help their kids with homeschool, ย time management, discipline, motivation, mindset, getting calm, physical activity etc. etc. ย i.e. all the skills that don’t get taught in regular school but that you as a Genki English teacher use every day of the week. ย The mums WANT what you know! ๐
Ninja Tip: Sometimes the kids and mums are taught together, ย sometimes they are split with a kids class and a parents class on another day. ย
One reason these lessons really work is that the mums want to learn them in order to teach them to their kids. ย ย They become so attentive and there is none of the “yeah, but … “excuses you get with non-motivated learners.
And you can use this with regular students as well.ย
Instead of just “Let’s learn this” ย change it into
“I want you to learn this so you can teach it to …….. siblings/mum/dad/other kids in class/cousins/neighbors/classmates/ Roblox friends/ teddy bears…. “
It doesn’t matter who it is, ย it’s the fact thatย learning something to teach it to someone else flips in a switch in our brains.
Instead of just learning what we need right now and filtering out everything else, ย we become desperate to “complete the collection” ย to learn everything the teacher is saying just in case the person we are teaching needs it.
It’s a very simple tip but one that works wonders in class!
Enjoy!
Be genki,
Richard
P.S. ย If you were wondering about the Mommy & Me online classes, ย in the Business groupย we had one teacher who sold over a quarter of a million dollars of online Genki English lessons this way! ย And we’ve seen countless teachers save their offline schools by moving them online with a focus on helping the mums and the kids. ย So give it a try if online is your new normal!
