Simple.
I like simple.
And simple is always best.
People are always asking me to make more things, to add things, to make new lesson plans.
But I much prefer to try (and it is very hard!) to make things even simpler.
Really I just want to boil everything done to one nugget.
You can expand it out later. But to see the whole picture, simple is best.
My Top Tip?
So what’s my total top 100% best way of doing an awesome Genki English lesson?
It’s here …. The Genki English Awesome Lesson Formula:
Review + Song + Game = One Awesome Lesson
Of course, just like with a regular formula (I’m a Physics major!) you can expand it out:
- Review: TPR style Warm Up covering *every* question/grammar point covered so far ( and as many answers as you can fit) Plus a review of the Genki English song from last week.
- Song: The Input stage of the lesson. Introduce today’s new language with Images, melody & gestures (to get *all* the kids learning) with the mini lesson & Genki English song (i.e. the song is the target language of the lesson.) And making sure they understand what you are introducing.
- Game: The output stage. The classroom game, full of adrenaline to simulate a real life speaking situation where the kids get to use the English you just introduced.
But of course that starts looking a lot more complicated – and hence scary! – and you end up needing a video to explain it all.
So keep it simple:
Review + Song + Game = One Awesome Lesson
And of course
One Awesome Lesson x 100 = One Awesome Curriculum
So, when your kids (or parents) ask you, how can you simplify down what you do to one simple formula?
Because that is your secret sauce 🙂
Be genki,
Richard
P.S. Don’t forget you can ask me any of your teaching questions today only LIVE over on Facebook. Check out the times here!
I love the simple lesson plan. And then I clutter it up 🙁 … or feel pressured to clutter it all up…agh.
The key is doing those 3!!! parts right and awesome! I still need to work on that and get the kids on the same page.
And find the best game / activity to apply and practice the new and old language.
It’s very important to use songs and games during lesson.
This makes our lesson more effective and interesting.
Thanks.
