The Good Dinosaur Picture Book

Pixar may have just come out with The Good Dinosaur movie,  but Genki English VIPs have had the Good Dinosaur picture book since 2013 🙂

Ninja Tip:  This book is really great for teaching the irregular past.  And of course some good manners 🙂

It’s in the Teacher’s Set software Miracle Level – along with the American (“Mommy”, “pajamas”, “take a bath”) and UK ( “Mummy”, “pyjamas”,  “have a bath” ) versions.

Ninja Tip:  That’s also a great case study if your students have to study the difference between the two Englishes!

Enjoy!

Be genki,

Richard

P.P.S.  And don’t forget that other big movie coming up soon. 🙂

There’s a couple of things that I seem to have conflict with when it comes to the story books. I love them! I can’t deny it! And so do the kids! BUT, I find their volume is a bit low and I wish there was an option for the story to tell itself, without us having to have to “flip the page”, which can be rather irritating, especially if you have to have your laptop or tablet in your hands while the kids watch /read it.

We have the story in flashcards if we want to go over it with the kids in detail.

As for the volume, sometimes acoustics aren’t what they should be, or the class next door is rowdy, or the kids don’t stop fidgeting……things that happen, and having the volume not-so-high can cause the kids to distract themselves as they can’t hear it – at least for those at the end of the class.

Let me give a bit more detail. In my case, I have a tiny classroom where the chairs and table barely fit, so I can’t get the kids to sit around me to tell the story. They have to be sitting at the table (and they’re rather crammed too!). This can make it difficult for the ones at the back to see or hear well. Personally, I use a separate speaker as my laptops’ volume isn’t too high, but even so, at times we just don’t hear the narrator!

Any chance of this happening at some point?

PS You never told me if you received my “Genki Review Question Cards”! LOL

    Hi Carol,

Thanks for the feedback on this! The overall volume of the picture books should be the same, although some of the phrases are louder or quieter to give them more drama. What sort of external speaker are you using? It might be an idea to try something like this:

Yes indeed, I have your questions cards in my email ready to try out – I always tend to take longer to get back to the really great emails, but I promise I will!
