With all the Genki languages that we offer, Korean is by far the most popular. Β ( Yep, more popular than Chinese, Spanish, German or Japanese!)
And just like I do with the Ninja Teaching course, the first question I always ask students is ….
================================
If you were sitting next to me right now,
what would you most want to know about learning Korean?
=================================
What do you think the most popular answer would be?
Vocab? Numbers? Writing?
Well, I can tell you that it is something that students *always* ask.
It’s by far and away the most popular question.
But …. many teachers never even think about it.
What is it?
Well, here’s how Brithney phrased it this morning:
I would want to know , with absolute commitment from me how long will learning Korean take ?
So how would you answer that question for your students?
I tell you, they are thinking about it π
My answer is:
Full time, 3 months. Β Or a year if you do a couple of hours a week.
Obviously I get the most motivated students.
Ninja Tip: Β That’s why we focus so much on motivation in the beginning of the school curriculum – we have to build up this motivation!
But it shows that students do want to know how long this will take. Β They don’t want an open cheque where they’ll have to keep paying for years and years and not know where the end is!
So get your answers ready, Β and be sure to ask your students the question!
Be genki,
Richard
P.S. Β If you are teaching with kids and are dealing with parents, then you just change the question a little bit:
If I could wave a magic wand and get the perfect English for your little angel, Β what would that look like? Β And how would you know we’ve achieved it?
It’s amazing how this clears up all the parent problems – and of course gets you so many more students because no-one else cares enough to ask π
Korean is one of the most difficult languages you could ever try to learn to speak well. Although it’ll probably take you five to ten years to speak at a college level, in a year you could totally pick up all that you need to get along with most people.
And unlike Japanese or Chinese, the Korean script is a cinch to learn.
