As we have very, very tight budgets in the India schools, the traditional “Doctor Doctor” game (e.g. here’s the Funky Mummy version) can’t be used as we need to make the games use as few materials as possible and if possible zero materials. So here’s the Simply Doctor Doctor Game:
1.One child comes to the front.
2.The class ask “Are you OK?”
3.The child becomes a patient and says No, my (part of body from the song) hurts
4.The first person to touch this body part on the patient wins!
5.But, the patient has to try and run away from the fake doctors!
This is actually a very spacious classroom for our schools, but if you have more space the kids can actually run about. Tomorrow we have to see how they do this in the most cramped classrooms you’ve ever seen!
I like what they did with the game and to make it more difficult, the patient can only say what hurts and not touch the part so that the doctors can really think of what part the patient is hurting.
Very nice simple game. I have an old first-aid kit with out of code bandages we use to play this game. A collegue made big paper bandage shapes with a red cross painted on to hold on the afflicted body part with a picture of a bottle of medicine to make you “okay” again.
Interesting modification to the game! How do the teachers respond? The comments I get from teachers and staff developing activities in Chennai is that they don’t like these kinds of activities because they get too unruly! They prefer students sit and not move about. Looks like you have a good group of students though!!
We trained the teachers up and they’re very happy to do the fun stuff instead of the desk work! The kids were as shy as anything before, now they’re pretty cool.
