Popped along to the ACET workshop in Fukuoka today ( figured it would be a nice rest after spending the last few days till well into the morning auditioning music files!). The picture books went down very well ( maybe A4 is best?), and I also did the Nemo Game. One of the teachers also had the great idea for a Halloween version of calling out the names of Halloween things and then then having everyone disperse when you shout out “I can see a vampire!”.
Today was a free for all where everyone demonstrated some new ideas, it’s a great way to exchange things that work. One of the teachers, Nigel, did a hip hop dance to go with the Hip Hop Phonics ABC song. He has some amazing dance moves worked out for loads of the songs, I’m going to have to get his videos on the site soon!
For the time being, the ABC dance basically involves bending your knees and doing a hip hop style “pose” and moving left on “a” and “b”, then right on “c” and “d”, left on “e”, right on “f”, left on “g”. It sounds daft, but when you try dance it yourself it works so well! It really does help in memorising the sounds as you are concentrating more on the dance, and the phonics sounds just become second nature – have a try and see!
