New Phonics Stories Covers

Thanks everyone for the amazing Coaching Call – I just put up a wrap up post here!

———————————————————————————-

OK, now back to today’s story …. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve just put up some front covers for the new Phonics Stories. ย They look pretty good eh?

But …. do you want me to also include these covers in with the actual phonics posters pdf file? ย

Pros: ย They look really good and would be cool to print & show the kids.

Cons: They’d be more paper for you to print, and I know you all like to keep the printing to a minimum! ๐Ÿ™‚

Do let me know in the comments, it would really help and of course, enjoy the amazing stories!

See you in a couple of hours on skype!

    Richard, these are amazing.

I’d love to have them extra, especially as the GE phonics is anyway far too thick to bind with the stories in there.
It’s amazing how just one page can make something look so much different.

    See you then,

    bye

Glad you like them! Maybe put just the covers at the back of the pdf, as an optional extra?

I’m thinking they might look great to put on the wall, next to the print out of the story!

Bingo!! They’ll go over like tongue-twisters either to train the articulation in a very fun way. It’s an extremly important excercise.
I agree with Margit-it’d better to have them separately.
    Good job, Richard!

    Just what I needed !

I have my two clubs in the afternoon and will test the posters.
Thank you Richard and thanks to the artist who reates these pictures.

Glad you all like them! Remember the kids won’t be able to read the actual covers, but they will be able to read the actual stories !

The covers look cool. How about giving the kid that improves the most in phonics a copy of a story that he kicked ass on with a special cover. I think it would be a great reward.

  7. Stephen

I think those covers look fantastic!!! How about separating each one from the main phonics books into smaller books? That would be really helpful. There is a cool reading series I use called Reading Eggs which has similar phonetic short story books.

@Adam: You mean like have them in a form where you can print them into a booklet? Like with the cover on the front and the story inside? Could be interesting!

@Stephen: Thank you! Yeah, I thought about separating the stories out, but then it’s always a real pig trying to get them back in the proper order – and of course the order you teach them in is everything, I wouldn’t fancy wrapping fish’n’chips in newspaper and *then* frying them up! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Stephen,

I am using “Reading Eggs” as well, with my daughter, and I think it is just amazing, but with the stories: It is a completely different “Philosophy” ; as Richard says: the order is all.

Of course it is all up to the teacher, but I personally wouldn’t want to use anything as rewards. Especially for reading this can be very frustrating and dismotivating for the kids who are slower, and it can lead to the very very bad habbit of practicing the stories at home.

The kids will come back and have learned them by heart, something we really want to prevent. I’m thinking of the stories as something to use only in class, until they can really read them.

    Margit,
Yes, I see your concerns. I guess it’s just that every school I’ve ever worked at here in Taiwan uses a reward system, so I’m always using one anyway. I just think that if the kids come home really excited about getting a phonics story as a reward, their parents will be really happy.

    Adam,

I see, so the solution could be to just use them in class, till they can read them and give out the cover afterwards.
BTW: You can print them really tiny. I just tried, and they look gorgeous.

    @Magrit:

    Hey there!
I’d like to mention that not only can one bind the entire phonics book, stories included; but you can do it with the pages laminated!!!! I did it and I love the way it looks!
Wish I could post a picture here so you could see it, but I can send you one if you so wish!

Thanks Richard! They’re on the way!

What I did was to put two pages back to back in each laminating sleeve. This allowed to for the book to be thinner (still fat though! LOL) but to be able to use pages with two sides, which also saved on sleeves!

The result is perfect and it will last forever! :o)
