Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few years you must have heard about the huge success of the “Rock Band” video games. You basically hit coloured instruments in time to pre-recorded music. But they are massive, massive hits with “kids” of all ages. The Beatles even have their own version!

So the latest Genki English thing is of course the advanced Hip Hop songs. It’s just the same but this time you listen to the song and hit the right English button. Can you get full marks?

And from today there’s also, by popular request, a download version of the software. It’s on at $18.99 which is the same price as the Playstation Rock Band, but of course this time your students are learning to love their English class! Plus you also get the mp3s of the songs and some very funky workbooks.

More details here or buy now.

Enjoy!

P.S. If you’ve recently bought the pack, write down a comment on the blog and I’ll send you a complimentary upgrade!

I’ve still never actually played any of the Rock Band games. I should get a Playstation already.

I brought the pack about a year ago. I guess that’s not so recent, is it ~
This set will come in super useful though. It looks really great when I teach in star bucks – all the other teachers just have textbooks!

Do most teens and adults enjoy these songs?? It seems such a bargain especially if it would work with some of the cooler teenages I have! Does it help to get them relaxed and talking more??

PS I must have been living under a rock!! I have looked at rock band on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JOaMf2t3pE We all like singstar so have never looked at this before although now I am sure I saw a launch on CNN!!

    Richard,

what’s the difference between these and the Hip Hop songs and lyrics we get free on line?

And by the way, I have a request for something Hip Hop(py)
    “I don’t know how…he/she/it is.”
I got here from the “What do you think of”, via “Your the best” starting to teach how to have a discussion by adding “Why”.

Now often the answer is, ” I don’t know how big it is” “..how expenisve it is” “…how tall he is”

I was wondering how to explain the
    ” It is big”
” Is it big?” (these first two are okay, but:):
    “how big it is?”
without making confusing explanations and thought it would be great to have a song.

    Flossy,

go for it! Really it works wonders. I didn’t have an idea of how to use them until Julian posted something that he uses them in each lesson.

I thought I would need some basic grammar and more words, …
but I just gave it a try.

It really gets them out of there and they start speaking. And now I’d love more, more, more of them.
Very surprising was the “You’re the best” song. They remembered all these words in just 10 minutes twice (two lessons) and doing the games at home.

No difference, just you can use it offline!

I’ll get to work on more hip hop songs when I get logic up and running!

I’ve had really great reception with them all around、especially with my high-school age students. I teach these guys one-on-one in cafes and the like, so we don’t actually sing the songs. Up until now (ill be using the software from now on) I’ve been using the cut-out bits of paper from the website, with the worksheets that are also there. It makes for a really good warm up. I’ve used “excuse me where’s the … “ with my 6th graders too, and they loved it!

    Richard –
    Thanks!
