I’m seeing a lot of people telling teachers to start selling “digital products” to try and increase their income, mainly because they want to try and sell you a “digital product” π
I even saw one teacher selling a business course on how she made $1000s in a month teaching online. Β What she didn’t say was that this was money up front for monthsβ worth of lessons that she then had to go and teach without getting paid any more. π
So do be a little skeptical when seeing things online, education is a booming industry (worth billions of dollars!) and a lot of people are trying to cash in on it.
And the thing is you don’t need anything fancy or new, you pretty much can earn any income you want just by doing what you love; teaching English!
Especially after the pandemic, parents, and kids, are crying out for GREAT teachers like yourself!
There are, however, a few really important things you need to get right:
1. Β The main thing is to believe in yourself, Β so you don’t sell yourself too cheap. Nobody is looking for a “below average” teacher so make sure that’sΒ not the message your pricing gives out!
2. Plus of course to be improving your teaching skills everyday. Β When your teaching skills become so much better this week than they were last week, then it’s easy to see why you should be charging more for your lessons than last week. Β Β ( We do “airplane pricing” where current students stay at the same price because they supported you before, but any new students pay the new fees and get all the new teaching & mindset skills you have.)
3. And, if you’re teaching privately, to be *really* choosy who you let into your class. Β It’s a privilege to be in your class and every time you let a student (or parent!) in who doesn’t fit exactly with what you want then you are denying a place to someone who is a perfect match for you. Β We call this the “Spaghetti Syndrome” Β – if you really want to sell ice cream, then sell ice cream. Β If someone asks you to make spaghetti, then don’t go away trying to make them spaghetti, because you’ll be losing everyone who wants your amazing ice cream!
