For a long time we’ve had a wedding as the June flashcard for the Β Genki English Months of the Year Lesson
But do you know why weddings were traditionally held in June? Β Here’s a little story for you ….
Why Weddings in June?
Many years ago the King and future Queen were planning their wedding.
Unsure about the best date, they asked the wise old owl for advice.
“Choose June,” said the owl. “It’s the perfect month for weddings.”
“Why June?” they questioned.
The owl explained, “June is named after Juno, the goddess of marriage. Her blessings will grace your union.”
She gestured at the colorful flowers outside. “In June, we have many flowers. They will make your wedding beautiful.”
She then showed them a pot of honey. “And in June, the most honey is harvested. You could enjoy a whole month of delicious honey, a honeymoon.”
βIf you marry in June, your children will be born when the farmers have less work so they may help you more.β
The owl pinched her nose.βAnd after the Great Bath in May, all the townsfolk will be clean and ready to celebrate.”
The King and Queen were delighted.
They held their wedding in June, which was filled with blessings, happy faces, loving care, beautiful flowers, and sweet honey.
From that day, June became the city’s favorite wedding month, all thanks to the wise old owl’s advice.
The End.
