Green Beard is hiding behind the toaster: Spider Dominoes, Sentence Making Dice + Photo Real Cards!

Want a cool way to make sentences? Β Here we go….

Good for all the year round we start off withΒ the newΒ Dice Game (how to play) & Dominoes (how to play) for the Β “Where is the spider?” prepositions lesson:

As well as for the ever popular coloured beard pirates:

Sentence Making

Then if you throw in a few of the “House and Home” Photo Real Flashcards e.g.

glasscupcombtoasterplatesofa

(I bet quite a few of you have never seen these have you!)

Once you’ve had a run through the Β “Where is the spider?” &Β coloured beard songs you can play a game like this…

1. Pick up a “House and Home” Photo Real Flashcard

2. Roll both the coloured beard and spider prepositions dice.

3. Get a point if you make the right sentence e.g.

Black Beard is under the plate.

or

Red Beard is behind the sofa.

Of course the sillier the sentence the bigger the laughs!

Then if you wanted to get even crazier, just mix in the ….ing theme or superhero theme to get things like ….

Green Beard is dancing in front of the toaster.

or

Brown Beard is hiding behind the cabbage.

I’ll tell you, you’ll never have to worry about correct sentence order again!

Like it?

    Richard,

    Great ideas. Thanks.

    ~and a request:
Would it be possible to get the activity cards from this series without the writing? It is confusing for the kids for example with sentences like “can”.
They will keep saying “I can skiing” etc.

Hi Richard, I did ‘Colours’ with my kids yesterday and I used the theme – we are the pirates!!! They had a blast and kept asking for ‘one more time’.

Thank you so much for the vol 11 promotions. I just downloaded it. Impressive!!!!

I realized that in your vol 12, you have some great flashcards and dice games which are accessible by VIP members.
However is there a possibility that for some of us where we could pay to download the materials? I do understand that you have put in a lot of effort in your work and as such it is not right to take it for free without paying for it.

@Margit: Good point! Yeah, I originally did them to go with “I like …” But… is it not easier to just get them used to chopping off the ing? It’s a good skill to have!

@Rai: Thank you very much for buying vol. 11 too! You might have noticed I did put a few printables in there. I haven’t really thought about a separate membership, I think it would be quite tricky as it would end up almost being the same as the full Download Pack! if there are just a couple you need then let me know!

Usually I think chopping of something is easier than adding something, but with this special one I disagree. At least here in Japan. Because everyone uses -ing wrong and the kids think they have to use ing all the time.
In the bookstore they write * Let’s reading” On NHK every day the girl says “Let’s cooking” They use it within the Japanese language, like in soccer they do “headings” or they say swimming γŒγ§γγ‚‹instead of ζ°΄ζ³³γŒγ§γγ‚‹or 泳げる。
yeah I know: The problem seems to be Japanese and not the English, but anyway, I know it will give teachers a hard time to figure out themselves what they have to say and how to teach.

Also as there are the other verbs in the GE pack usually without -ing, this seems confusing, too.

Well, for me personally no letters at all would be best, this way I could use them for can and for like. I don’t want them to read with the cards anyway.

But maybe you can see what everyone thinks. I can just tape over them otherwise.

The toilet team is always a hit, but combining with the boring topic of prepositions – it is an absolutely win-win game!

    Love it immensely.

It’s interesting game should we try, especially for active student. I’ll try more in the class, I hop they will like the game..
