I’ve got a new song for you!
This one joins the phonics “o” song and “i” song, this time to get in some phonics “u” words before you start the Genki Phonics course.
It’s also really easy to TPR (act) out, and so simple to do.
Plus of course there’s a funky twist at the end.
For a limited time VIP Members can download it for free:

Please do let me know what you think of the song in the comments, or if you have any questions!
Hopefully now we’ve covered all the sounds of English in the Genki English course!
Be genki,
Richard
P.S. I am still looking for another keyword to add to the “i” page of the phonics. We have “igloo” and “internet”, but I would like another as “India” is an “I” not a “i”! If you have any ideas please put them in the comments!
Hey Richard,
Great song- ill download it tonight after work! For your i words, how about ink, indigo, image, ill, iguana,…You don’t need the other i sounds like ice and stuff do you? Keep up the great work!!!
Creepy crawlies(vol.5) insects!
instant noodles!
Thanks for the phonics stuff.Genki English rules!
Take care on your next trip.
instant noodles! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Instant noodles sounds like a sure winner to me!!!
Impala
Great song!
what about?
“the indian eats instant noodles in the inn”
Nena
Short i word: inner tube Although it is two words, it is one noun and a fun one at that.
Richard, how about ‘ink’ in the inkpot for ‘i’, ‘inside’let’s play inside its raining or ‘insects’ in the house.
‘itchy’ is a useful ‘i’ word!
Haven’t really used the phonics songs, yet, but it would be another great thing to sing, since the kids seem to easily forget the vowel sounds.
I love the TPR capability in t his song. Igloo is somewhat a strange word for those in the United States–most kids don’t relate. I like itchy or inside–both are good TPR words.
It is amazing how few common words start with vowels in English isn’t it. I actually had to write a whole song for this to get the kids more exposure: http://genkienglish.net/whereisit.htm
Not sure why you don’t want India included as a word to elicit the short i sound…it does have this sound…just because the word is written with and capital I doesn’t matter. I think I’ll add India in to the Workbook for the kids (more kids in my classes know India before they come up with igloo or internet.)
Hi Martin, it’s important because although it’s the same sound, it’s a totally different grapheme. It would be like including “elephant” as a keyword for the “f” page, same sound but totally different grapheme!
