Hello,
First, just a quick recap on what we’ve got for you so far:
1) How to get online, what to teach and how to do itย (4 hour mini-course, ย grab a coffee, enjoy)
2) Genki English Software Onlineย ย & how to gamify itย
3) Gamesย
And in general we’ve found the same thing as in the “real” classroom i.e. great teachers share, ask for help, accept feedback and get better. ย And teachers who struggle offline tend not to ask for help or accept feedback so also struggle online too. ย ย So if you are a boss or trainer, keep up your regular support, “just in time” & mindset training for your staff and let them know you are there for them.
However we’ve also seen two other big problems with the jump online …..
1) ย The fear of getting started. ย ย
This one is easy to fix. ย If it’s an “option” then the fear wins. ย When it becomes compulsory, because of quarantine or your boss tells you, then it’s like kids jumping into a swimming pool. ย Take a big breath and off you go!
2) Then after a few weeks the fear of being “good enough” begins to creep in.
We do of course see this offline too but we’re seeing this more and more around the world from teachers who have been in lockdown for a few weeks or months.
Inevitably it’s fueled by social media, ย seeing all those other teachers doing impossible things and thinking we have to keep up.
We don’t. ย We know we don’t.
But we still feel it ๐
In fact the only people who don’t feel it are usually either sociopaths or serial killers ๐ ย (Or maybe just really confident people).
So no need to feel bad for feeling it but do keep an eye out for this in your staff.
And if you find yourself going through this, ย chill, relax, cut out the social media and watch this video from Marisa Peer, ย I think it you might like it ๐
