Filipino teachers are fantastic. ย (And the food is very masarap!)
Thanks to everyone who came to this weekend’s workshop in Tokyo, you were fantastic!
It was so good to see such a huge turnout of so many amazingly genki teachers.
Here’s a little of what we did ….
- Disco Warm upย – to get everyone genki and remember “Challenge!” or “Easy!”?
- The Agreement– we all listen and work as a team!
- What’s your name? + Gameย &ย German Versionย – Everyone was asking me if Genki English can be used with adults, I hope this proved it!
- Genki English Rules
- Top 100 words in English & Efficiency -> ย Hence why we always teach in sentences. ย ( I’ll write a blog post about these soon!)
- To get “tired” kids & adults genkiย Superheroย &ย Projectsย & Kamila & Margit’s Kidsย – Princeton MBA level stuff!
- Advanced Genki English with Better than the best of the best ย & I have to …. I can.
Over lunch I also played Ken Robinson’s TED talk on education:
- Then we had Baby Steps Curriculum Building withย Eat drink dance!ย ->ย What do you want to do?ย (with the Clap, Clap Game)
- Change one word to getย Want do you want to be?ย – hopefully you liked my niece doing this one! ย & the “I like everything” game
- And then to the Halloween version withย Want do you want to beย for Halloween?ย and the Harry Potter gameย (and Mingle of course!)
- Who is in the haunted house?ย &ย Prepositions: Where is the spider?ย ( plus more Halloween Games and Ideas here)
- Then use the same game but with different grammar with ย What are you doing? & Harry Potter Game
Next we had …
- The Imagination Worksheetsย – remember the kids start out as geniuses so let’s keep them this way! ย (And we also touched on the Genki Creative Writing, ย but you pretty much all switched off on that one so we quickly left it!! ) ๐
- So then you all went crazy for theย Fruit Market dance and maths game!
And finally we had Good Cat, Bad Cat test
Wow, now that was a lot! ย I hope you all got a lot of ideas there, ย and remember to think big, ย keep the curriculum short, and make the use of all those creative techniques!
And you never know….. there was talk of maybe inviting me back later in the year for a Christmas workshop, maybe???
Are you genki enough to do it all again. ๐
Be genki,
Richard
It was the best workshop I ever attended! Richard was beyond AWESOME…..
He is CONTAGIOUS cause I am seriously infected with his ” genkiness” and I am spreading it on to my students and colleagues.
He is such a big inspiration to us!!
Dear Richard,
Genki English Workshop in Tokyo was my first ever workshop here in Japan. And you and your workshop have totally awakened my teaching senses, stirred my imagination and kept my mind thinking making my classes to be more genki everyday… And now I am applying what you have taught us. And they are truly working and effective. The songs, games and quieting techniques are fun and practical to do. Everyday, I always think, plan and teach genki English to my kids.
Now, I can say that I am your new Genki disciple!
“Genkily” yours,
Wilfredo
Thank you Wilfredo & Kristhine! Keep up the great work!! ๐
