Hello,
I hope you are having a fantastic start to the new term. And also that you’re not too into Halloween prep yet 🙂
Lots of people have been asking me about all the Genki English worksheets, where to find them and how to use them.
Where to find them?
The easiest way is:
- Go to the curriculum page with all the lesson plans.
- Click through to the lesson you want to teach ( Ninja Tip: Just do one at a time. Don’t overload. Baby Steps, keep in simple.)
- You’ll find all the worksheets on the right of each page.
Or I’ve also curated a selection of the best worksheets, workbooks and phonics materials over on the VIP Printables Page.
Ninja Tip: If you’re not a VIP member yet, don’t miss out, you become a lifetime VIP with the Teacher’s Set. And the price is actually going up tomorrow, September 30th, so get in soon if you don’t want to miss out!
How to use worksheets?
The key thing here is that worksheets are just a supplement. They’re not the main meal. In fact many amazing teachers get fantastic results with no worksheets at all. (Personally I very rarely use them!)
And of course you don’t want to be that teacher who just hands out worksheets at the beginning and disappears for the rest of the day. ( Oh yes, they do exist, don’t let the dark side win!)
For the great teachers out there, that’s you by the way, you can get a lot of very constructive work from specific worksheets.
For example the imagination worksheets work wonders when you come on to teaching creative writing.
Or when you are doing reading, and have the time to dedicate to them, then the phonics worksheets really help advance the kids.
It’s all about the ….
And of course before all that, way before we move on to reading or writing, it’s all about the speaking.
And my top recommendation for that are the “Evaluation Worksheets”
These ones are for the parents to see what is going on. The kids can’t read of course, but they can:
- See the pictures and say today’s language (Ninja Tip: The printed words are just there for the parents.)
- Teach the song to their parents ( who can follow on with the printed lyrics.)
- Do the mini-imagination activity ( creativity is so important, so we want to get it in early.)
Then the parents give the kids a tick mark for each activity.
This is hugely motivating for the kids and is so satisfying for the parents to see what you are doing.
Not bad eh?
So there you go. There are thousands of extra printables for VIP members, but start with these ones and see how you go. Eventually you can add in extra sheets for games or projects etc.
Or indeed, just go with the regular lesson plan, save your preparation time and go with no worksheets at all!
Be genki,
Richard
