2 New Songs + Imagination

I’m (hopefully)Β  on an aeroplane flying somewhere over Russia at the moment.Β  So today’s blog is just a catch up on the stuff that was in this month’s newsletter in case any of you missed it, or had it spam filtered out!

1. New Pronouns Song

This has been quite a hit on the members forum and in all the places I’ve tried it so far.Β  It’s a big “anthemy” type song where you finish on a big high note.Β  I originally wrote it to learn pronouns i.e. to expand on things like “How are you?” but teachers have also been using it for the verb to be, which is great.Β  I’m still researching about the graphics, but there are enough visuals to keep you going, plus of course the demo song!

2. Let’s build a house

I’ve been working on this for ages and although it’s still not perfect then hopefully it’s “very usable” in the current state!Β  The original version I ran on the beta test forum was considered too fast so this one is a lot slower and instead of repeating the whole sentences, the kids just repeat the key words.Β  In any case it’s a theme that always cropped up whenever I had classes in kindergarten, and the lesson plan online is a great piece of imagination combined with English learning.Β  Which leads to …

3. Imagination Worksheets

We have a playbook similar to this in the Kids English set and I always really liked it.Β  There are dozens of books with similar things available in Japan and they really work wonders, so I’ve done a pdf book of 40+ “Imagination Worksheet” designs for you.Β Β  If you have your own kids, try them out at home as well it’s amazing what they come up with!

As with anything on Genki English, and especially anything new, I very much look forward to hearing your thoughts so I can either make more for you, make changes to better suit your lessons, or sometimes to just forget that particular idea altogether and move on to something else!

See you on Monday,

Be genki,

Richard

Hi Richard, Lets build a house comes at a perfect time – next week’s theme on the syllabus for my 3rd year elementary classes is “houses”. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks. Elizabeth

    I think perfect!
I’ve been so curious for the pronouns song and really I find it great.
I like the “Genki English Graphics” more than the other ones, but actually so far I’m teaching it without cards. With this song it is so easy to make the kids understand.
I put them into two groups,(two lines) then in each group they form pairs again. While singing they point to themselves, their partner, a boy, a girl and for “we” their own group, for “they” the other group and for everybody they come together in a big circle.
The dinasour game works good as well!

    Thank you.

    Hello Richard!!

Thanks for the additional worksheets. My students enjoyed them very much.

By the way, in what CD can I find the original Genki English Christmas song?

    Hi Sakura,

The original Christmas song is on CD4.

It was good to see you at the Expo the other week!

    Sorry for the late reply!!

Seeing you in person was really a great experience. I really wanted to take pictures, I just didn’t have the guts to ask you.

I hope to see you next time.
