Haneen has sent in this very nice game for practising colours and clothes.
1. Give each team dice, one with colours on, one with clothes.
Ninja Tip: You can either make your own using the template here or if you’re a VIP member I’ve got ones done for you below:
2. Everyone asks “What are you wearing?”
3. One group rolls their dice and if they can say “I’m wearing …” plus the name of the item and the colour they win a point!
Ninja Tip: This is a great chance to introduce the difference between say “I’m wearing blue shorts.” and “I’m wearing a red hat.” Doing it in the game makes sure you have everyone’s attention and they pick it up straight away without needing any silly grammar explanations about countables/uncountables etc.!
4. Repeat from step 2.
That’s it, very simple but very fun.
Ninja Tip: You can of course add in more activity if you wish by using the same English with the Pink Fish game.
The “Abracadabra” Game
Haneen also sent in this great chant to use with jobs.
1. Everyone stands in a circle.
2. One person starts out by saying the rhyme using one of the jobs on the board e.g. “Abracadabra, listen to me. You are a pilot 1,2,3!”
3. They then throw a ball at one of the students, who then saying “I’m a pilot” becomes a pilot doing the gestures!
4. This person then repeats the rhyme from step 2 until everyone has had a go and all the jobs have been used.
You can also use this with the clothes themes, e.g. “Abracadabra, listen to me. You have a skirt 1,2,3!” even something like fruits “Abracadabra, listen to me. You are an apple 1,2,3!” or even transport “Abracadabra, listen to me. You are an aeroplane 1,2,3!”
Lots of fun!
Letter mats
And one final bonus idea from Haneen today, a letter mat.
1. The kids take turns throwing a cube onto the board and get one point for every word that starts with that letter or sound.
2. The team with the most points at the end is the winner!
Smart Kids & What do you think?
Finally a quick word from Haneen:
I believe that every student is smart in her own way .As a teacher I should find a suitable teaching style that engages the students to learn English.
I’m sure Haneen would love to know what you think of the ideas, so do let us know in the comments!
