Hello!
This is a very strange time of year. Some teachers in Europe are getting ready for a 3½ (!) month vacation. Whilst some teachers in Asia can barely take a few days off in August.
And in the Southern hemisphere, it’s the beginning of winter!
For me the nicer weather in the UK (not much travelling this year!) means for some reason I’m feeling super creative! So there are all these projects that you’ve been asking me to make that I’m finally get round to doing!
So which of these ideas will help you the most?
🎯 Games & Lesson Plans
These are always the most popular! So I just revamped the lesson plans page to include everything – the beginners, intermediate & advanced.
Everyone can access the basic page here. & VIPs can access the full lot from the VIP Menu at the top of the page!
(Remember, you’re a VIP if you have the Teacher’s Set Superpack!)
And games are the most important part of any speaking class lesson plan – they are what gets all the students speaking, not just the extroverts!
The lesson plans above all have a “no prep” recommended game and there are a 100+ bonus speaking games here. ( 👈 This link is usually VIP only, so be sure to bookmark it if you find it useful! )
💥 Cartoon Idioms
Last year we had the rather “cool” Idioms on Fire. These were great for teens & adults but quite a few teachers asked if I could make more cartoon based ones that are, well, just more fun!
So this year we have the brand new Cartoon Idioms, with 48 brand new idioms!
🦖 🔮 🎁 All 12 Grammar Tenses Songs Are Now Complete!
It’s always funny doing grammar stuff! Quite rightly these weren’t too popular with students – just look at the views on Tik Tok, the regular Genki English gets 1000s of views, these just got a few hundred each! But they’re there if you need them for exams after you’ve got your students awesome at speaking. Again bookmark if you need it in the future! 🙂
🔴 A.I. Taking Your Job & What To Do About It!
It’s been a crazy week in AI teaching news – just have a look at the English teaching abilities of the new ChatGPT 4o!
Remember most English teachers don’t speak English & most English teaching is incredibly ineffective, so you are way safer than the majority of English teachers.
But there will be changes.
The way to navigate it is to be the best at what you do & learn how to best present what you do to the world.
200 years ago everyone was a farmer, but only the best prepared (financially & skills wise and luck!) survived.
It’s the same with cameras replacing family portrait painters.
But then again, Taylor Swift sold more vinyl than anyone else last year, even though her music is all free on Spotify!
So if you love being an English teacher, learn everything you can about the job, get the best materials, & learn everything you can about the financial side of things so you’ll a) have the financial buffer to survive what ever comes along & b) let people know that you offer something that the A.I.s & 1000s of other teachers can’t!
Keep in touch, enjoy the materials above, let me know if you have any questions or things I can help with and have a great weekend!!
Be genki,
Richard
