What’s Halloween in Japanese?

One request I’ve had quite a few times over the last few days, from various ALTs, has been for an explanation of Halloween in Japanese to show your home room teachers. I used to simply recommend ALC’s “Kodomo Eigo” magazine as each year they usually have a Halloween special that has a description of Halloween somewhere. The trick is finding it if you don’t speak Japanese!

So this year being the year of Web 2.0 probably the best resource to use is Wikipedia. Just try doing a search for Halloween in Japanese ( ใƒใƒญใ‚ฆใ‚ฃใƒณ๏ผ‰ and it brings up a pretty comprehensive article. It might actually terrify your home room teachers as it is a bit heavy. It’s amazing though that we manage to make a holiday like this so much fun!
