If you’re just starting the new school year in Junior High School, here are a few pages that should help…
- Very first lesson of the year in JHS? here’s one idea.
- Usually the textbook gives you “the alphabet” to do first. Skip this. (The kids already know it and it doesn’t help their English.) Instead do a crash course in phonics. Rush through as many as you can and see the huge difference it makes to the rest of the year. Be firm. Do it. Your teachers will love you for this.
- Then here are the first year’s textbook curriculum and how you can genki it up.
- And if you need any more cool game ideas, here are my top choices for Junior High.
Make the most of these first few months whilst they still love English (and before they turn into zombies in September!) you can create such a wonderful first impression.
Especially the phonics, I can’t over emphasize what a huge difference it makes using it for these first few weeks instead of the horrible textbook alphabet materials.
And if you are super lucky enough to have full control of your curriculum, here are my top curriculum hints and tips.
Enjoy!
Be genki,
Richard
