5. And Finally...
Hello,
It's just about the Summer holidays, but here are a few great activities
to finish off the term...
1. Samurai Hats Janken
This is a great game sent in by Genki English reader Hasan Ahmet.
1. Get the kids to make origami Samurai hats ( e.g.
http://www.cs.uu.nl/~hansb/d.origami/traditional/hat.html)
2. The kids draw a picture from today's theme ( e.g. feelings, favourite
ice cream flavours or family members) on their hat.
3. Give each kid 5 chips ( all schools have boxes of chips lying around
somewhere)
4. Start the stopwatch ( just to give a touch of tension)
5. They practise today's conversation and answer with whatever is on their
hat. e.g. "What's your favourite flavour?" "I like apple!"
etc,
6. Then they Rock, Paper, Scissors.
7. The loser gives the winner a chip.
8. AND... they exchange hats so have to answer with something different
next time!
9. The person at the end with the most chips is the winner.
You can read Hasan's full description of how to play the game on the site
at:

own, be sure to share them at:

2. The Ice Cream Song
It's Summer, the kids are hot, so what better theme for a song than ice
cream flavours. This song has some fantastic new artwork done by my cousin
James that is almost guaranteed to cool you down and looks almost good
enough to eat.
The really cool thing about this song is that it cures the problem of kids
saying things like "I like dog" or "I like cat" ( i.e.
without the "s"), because in this song the answers to the question
"What's your favourite flavour?" ( or "favorite flavor"
if you like, both are on the mini cards ) are all in the singular i.e.
"I like lemon", "I like cherry" meaning "I like
cherry flavour". It sounds tricky, but try it out in class and the
next time someone ( even a teacher ) leaves off an "s" at the
end of an "I like + animal" all the kids will go "oooo"
you like that flavour???

3. Online arcade: North, South, East, West
The new game on the Genki English Online Games Arcade is North, South,
East & West. It's actually the same game that is on the Genki Japan
site for learning Japanese, but now you can get the kids to practise it
for homework or in the computer room if you're in school:

4. New Good Morning, Adjective & Transport Cards
I've also got some new A4 picture cards for you, these ones have all been
jazzed up and come complete with very nice sets of colour mini cards &
classroom posters:
Good Morning ( greetings )

Adjectives Part 2 (

Transport (

5. And finally...
The worksheets for the High School / Adult songs proved popular in last
month's newsletter, so I've done a few more for
*If you had a million dollars
*Have you ever?
*Dream Holiday

If your kids are still into the World Cup ( or even just football in general),
don't forget the new Football MP3 song:

Plus of course there are lots of new updates coming up over the next few
days and weeks so be sure to check back soon.
Be genki,
Richard
